SPECS FOR LOSPALOS HIT THE GROUND RUNNING IN TIMOR LESTE

Visiting Mornington Peninsula volunteer optometry team Specs for Lospalos Inc. led by Rosebud Specsavers senior optometrist Colleen Hammond have hit the ground running in Dili, Timor-Leste, with the first day of meetings at the National Eye Centre, Dili Hospital, Canossian Order Madre Guilhermina Marcal and the British Consul.
Arriving with 1000 prescription spectacles – donated by Specsavers in partnership with Lions Recycle for Sight – and retinal scanner, slit lamp, visual fields and trial lens set. This equipment worth $30,000 has been generously donated by the optometry and ophthalmic professions in the Shire – the slit lamp by Dr Roufail, Mornington Peninsula Eye Centre.
This 90kg set of optometry equipment will be soon installed at the Lospalos Hospital to run a five-day clinic.
The visit and clinic has been facilitated by the Timor-Leste Embassy in Canberra, medical professionals in Dili and Lospalos, the Canossian nuns and government local administrators in Lospalos.
